Today, we're doing a deep dive into the company culture at Stratifyd. The fastest growing tech company in Charlotte, North Carolina, Stratifyd creates real-time data visualizations of customer feedback. Real-time visibility into what customers are saying - on social media, in reviews, online - allows brands to make better decisions faster.
DIVING INTO THE VALUES AT STRATIFYD
Customers come first. Stratifyd is a client-first business. Everything they do is centered on client satisfaction, and the notion that every customer matters. Good customer service requires handling customer inquiries quickly and efficiently. At Stratifyd, if a Client Manager identifies a product issue, they don't have to go through a bureaucratic chain of command to get the issue fixed. Instead, they can go directly to the product and engineering team to make the fix happen. Stratifyd's organizational values of collaboration, transparency, accountability, and execution are the cornerstones of building a client-first culture.
TALKING OVER COFFEE
Collaboration. Stratifyd's team members are encouraged to cross department lines. The know that every success is not just a personal victory, it's a team victory.
For example, the marketing team puts on a monthly event called Creative Coffee, during which they present materials from outside their organization that sparked interest or excitement. These materials come in the form of Instagram posts, ads from other companies, books, pamphlets, or anything else. The group then discusses what they like about the material and how it could be applied to their marketing efforts. A new group is invited to participate each month, including new hires, engineers, or C-suite executives to bring fresh perspectives.
The marketing team has found that people love things that express and evoke emotion. Stratifyd recently put up a Billboard in Toronto, and the campaign was built almost entirely around concepts discussed during Creative Coffee. The billboard isn't just another tech ad with text from an Artificial Intelligence bot. Instead, the billboard is centered around emotion and humanity. It doesn't focus on the product. It focuses on the clients.
TALKING WITH THE CEO
Transparency. Stratifyd's CEO, Derek Wang, has a background in academia. So, it's no surprise that he sees the importance of office hours. Every month, Derek sets aside a day for employees to stop by for a chat. Chats can be about anything - personal matters, work difficulties, big ideas. This openness to sharing and discussing ideas permeates Stratifyd's company culture. Every other week, Stratifyd hosts a town hall meeting. Every employee attends, and while senior directors usually make the presentations, the venue is open to debate and discussion from all staff. The town halls run through every aspect of the business. And everyone at Stratifyd is a stakeholder in the company, so they are invested in knowing how their role fits into the whole vision of Stratifyd.
ADDING TO A CULTURE
A culture based on people. Values are important. They provide guidelines for behavior and keep businesses focused on their goals. But values do not define a culture - people do.
CEO Derek Wang says, "Stratifyd is more than 52% female-owned. We are diverse, and together we make up Stratifyd's culture. The diversity in perspective, experience, and lifestyle creates an environment where people feel free and encouraged to express themselves. Our culture is constantly building and evolving, and when we hire, we want people who add and contribute to our culture, not just people who fit our culture."
Stratifyd encourages staff to bring their unique perspectives and experiences to work. They host women in tech events, and let employees and teams choose the company's volunteer initiatives.
Recently, an employee suggested that Stratifyd participate in a Community Playground Build, and the company said yes without hesitation. The weather on the day of the event was undeniably miserable as volunteers spent the day constructing a playground in the pouring rain. But at the end of the event, employees felt empowered, and now they get to walk by a playground every day that they built with their own hands. Another community outreach program brought 10-12-year-old girls into Stratifyd's office to spend the day shadowing staff. They shadowed everyone from C-Suite executives to interns, and, though having a bunch of kids in the office may have distracted a bit from work, it helped staff open up and filled the halls with excitement, passion, energy, and laughter.
HAVING A LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK
Work-life integration. One of Stratifyd's key focuses is a healthy work-life balance. They want folks to have a life outside of work.
Stratifyd's CEO has a background in engineering, and as he puts it, "I get livid when engineers have to come in the weekend to get work done. We want to make sure that the product team gives them time." Stratifyd truly cares about their employees' well-being, providing great healthcare benefits, 401k matching, flexible work hours, and continuing education programs. It's no surprise that so few staff voluntarily leave the company. Stratifyd has a great employee retention rate, and they work hard to keep people engaged. The customer may come first, but Stratifyd knows how to prioritize employee satisfaction.
